About Roberto Casula

After qualifying from Padova University. Mr. Casula has become the leading robotic- enhanced and minimal access cardiac surgeon in the UK having performed the UK's first coronary bypass without opening the chest in 2002. Following this success Mr. Casula has successfully operated on over 135 cardiac patients using minimal access robotic techniques.

Under Mr. Casula’s care, all of his patients requiring a coronary bypass grafting is operated without using the cardiopulmonary bypass machine, instead using the OPCAB or ‘off pump’ technique which allows the surgery to be conducted without stopping the heart, significantly reducing the risk of stroke and fatality in specific patients. Mr. Casula is one of a minority of cardiac surgeons who routinely use this procedure within the UK.

Mr. Casula is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a member of the Society of Cardio-thoracic Surgery for Great Britain and Ireland and a fellow and member of the European Association for Cardio-thoracic Surgery.
